Connecting Aus and BiH through Rugby Union
Australian delegation meets with Rugby Union Association of BiH, Olympic Committee BiH and BH Telecom
Sep 16, 2025
In September, Director and Chair Haris Jackman had the privilege of visiting the Rugby Union Association of Bosnia and Herzegovina, together with Kerry Chikarovski from NSW Rugby Union.
Hosted by Edis Šačirovič, President of the Rugby Union Association of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Mirza Oruč, Vice-President, we explored opportunities to strengthen women’s rugby in BiH — a sport that is growing rapidly, inspiring young athletes, and aiming for the Olympic stage in 2032.
It was fantastic to hear first-hand about the Association’s development programs, supported by the University of Zenica and the Olympic Committee of BiH.
We also had the privilege of meeting with Amel Kovačević, CEO of BH Telecom, to discuss the global growth of the game and the potential for partnership.
A highlight of the visit was delivering a letter of support from NSW Rugby CEO Peter Murphy OLY — a clear signal of the growing partnership between Australia and Bosnia and Herzegovina through sport.
The Australian Bosnian and Herzegovinian Chamber of Commerce see great potential for economic and social development through sport and is excited to support the establishment of pathways for player and coach exchange, expanding access, and building a future where rugby continues to empower women, men, and communities across BiH.
